Celanese Bid to Block Imports of Rival Sweetener to Be Probed

The U.S. International Trade Commission has launched an investigation into whether a calorie-free sweetener made by Anhui Jinhe Industrial infringes five patents owned by Celanese, according to a notice on the agency’s website.

  • Celanese filed the patent-infringement complaint in April against Jinhe and its importers over a compound called acesulfame potassium, or Ace-K, that’s used as a calorie-free sweetener in food and drinks
    • Celanese is seeking to block imports of Ace-K made by Jinhe and brought into the U.S. by companies including UMC Ingredients, Prinova and Agridient
