Casio Calculator Patent Infringed by Counterfeiters, Judge Says

An Illinois federal judge on Thursday made another default ruling in an case alleging counterfeiters hiding behind the mask of the internet sold knock-off calculators as genuine Casio Computer Co. Ltd. products.

Judge Thomas Durkin approved a motion for default judgment in favor of Casio, which alleged in a February complaint that e-commerce store operators using marketplace platforms hosted by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Amazon.com Inc., DHgate.com, and eBay Inc. were selling to Illinois consumers unauthorized and unlicensed products infringing on a Casio design patent associated with an electronic calculator.
