The Seventh Circuit vacated the decision of a federal district court in Illinois denying online vendors’ motion to vacate a default judgment against them in an individual’s action for trademark infringement, counterfeiting, and false designation of origin. According to the appeals court, allegedly infringing products weren’t sold to Illinois residents, and the facts that the vendors operated online stores accessible in the U.S. and offered shipping to the U.S. were insufficient to establish personal jurisdiction.
