The Patent Trial and Appeal Board granted in part Impinj Inc.'s revised non-contingent motion to amend, requesting that it cancel original claims of its patent for radio frequency identification tag chips and tags capable of backscattering more codes and methods, and add proposed substitute claims, in this inter partes review by NXP USA Inc. According to the board, two proposed substitute claims lack written description, but it granted the motion to amend with respect to the remaining proposed substitute claims.
