NetSoc LLC’s patent infringement claims against Chegg Inc. are collaterally estopped, a federal district court in New York ruled. NetSoc claims that Chegg infringed its method and system for establishing and using a social network to facilitate people in life issues. A federal district court in Texas held that NetSoc’s patent claims are directed to only ineligible subject matter, and both cases involved the same plaintiff, alleged infringement of the same patent, and NetSoc was represented by the same counsel.
