Challenged claims of Liberty Peak Ventures LLC’s patent that describes a system and method for issuing and tracking debit cards are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said, in an inter partes review by Askeladden LLC. The board determined that the challenged claims are obvious over prior art that describes an automated system and method for detecting fraudulent transactions using a predictive model, and a linked account instrument used to access funds in an existing demand deposit account held at a financial institution.
