The Patent Trial and Appeal Board determined that challenged claims of ParkerVision Inc.'s patent that discloses a communication system that can transmit and receive one or more information signals in one or more protocols are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, in an inter partes review by MediaTek Inc. According to the board, the challenged claims are obvious over various combinations of prior art, including prior art that relates to the problem of concurrent wireless communication with multiple communication partners of different wireless communication protocols, and that discusses the design of a direct conversion receiver.
