Some challenged claims of Godo Kaisha IP Bridge 1’s patent titled “Magnetic Tunnel Junction Device” are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board held, in an in partes review by Western Digital Technologies Inc. The board said that the challenged claims are obvious over prior art that states that magnetoresistance of magnetic tunnel junctions is of uncontested interest for important applications, titled “High Performance Magnetic Tunnel Barriers with Amorphous Materials,” and that discloses a magnetoresistance effect element. And the board denied the parties’ motions to strike and denied Godo Kaisha’s motion to exclude.
