The Patent Trial and Appeal Board found that challenged claims of Willow Blossom Holdco Limited’s patent that discloses a wearable, electrically powered breast pump system for extracting milk from a mother are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, in an inter partes review by Shenzhen Root Technology Co. Ltd. The board held that the claims are obvious over various combinations of prior art, including prior art that relates to systems and methods for pumping milk from a breast, to an electric breast pump, and to a breast shield unit for expressing human breast milk.
