Challenged claims of Correct Transmission LLC’s patent that relates to methods and systems for providing virtual private LAN services aren’t unpatentable as obvious over prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said, in an inter partes review brought by Juniper Networks Inc. The board determined that the challenged claims aren’t obvious over prior art that relates to providing network route redundancy through Layer 2 devices, software upgrade in a network node that includes primary and secondary control modules, and achieving transparent redundancy at a hierarchical boundary in a communication network.
