The Patent Trial and Appeal Board said that challenged claims of Yangtze Memory Technologies Company’s patent that relates to a channel hole plug structure of three-dimensional memory devices and a method for forming the same aren’t unpatentable as obvious over prior art, in an inter partes review by Micron Technology. According to the board, the challenged claims aren’t obvious over prior art that relates to three-dimensional NAND memory devices, such as vertical NAND strings, and describes four exemplary structures and modifications thereof.
