Challenged claims of ParkerVision Inc.'s patent that relates to the down-conversion and up-conversion of an electromagnetic signal using a universal frequency translation module are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said, in an inter partes review by Texas Instruments Inc. The board determined that the challenged claims are obvious over a practical RF design manual and prior art that discloses a single-chip CMOS direct-conversion transceiver. And the board dismissed in part and denied in part ParkerVision’s motion to exclude and dismissed Texas Instruments Inc.'s motion to exclude.
