Challenged claims of Resonant Systems Inc.'s patent that relates to vibration modules that can be incorporated into a wide variety of different types of electromechanical devices and systems to produce predetermined vibration responses are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said, in an inter partes review by Apple Inc. The board determined that the challenged claims are obvious over prior art
that discloses a “linear actuator” and an actuator with “curvilinear motion,” and that discloses a mechanical resonant system.
