The Patent Trial and Appeal Board said that challenged claims of a patent that relates to an apparatus for engaging in wireless commercial transactions are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, in an inter partes review by Apple Inc. The board said that the challenged claims are obvious over prior art that relates to approving a transaction request between an electronic transaction system and a portable electronic authorization device carried by a user using an electronic service authentication token, that describes conducting financial and other transactions using a wireless device, and that describes providing disbursed commodity code inputting services.
