Challenged claims of Carbyne Biometrics LLC’s patent that discloses authentication translation are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said, in an inter partes review by Apple Inc. The board determined that the challenged claims are obvious over prior art that discloses secure user authentication using biometric information, an apparatus and method for enabling applications on a security processor, and a system, method and apparatus for secure two-tier backup and retrieval of authentication information.
