The Federal Circuit affirmed the decision of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board that challenged claims of Universal Electronics Inc.'s patent that discloses a system and method for voice actuated configuration of a controlling device are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, in an inter partes review by Roku Inc. The court affirmed the board’s finding of obviousness based on the construction of the term “the provisioned codeset record comprising protocol and formatting information.”
