The Federal Circuit affirmed in part and vacated in part the decision of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board that claims of ST Case1Tech LLC’s patent that discloses an automatic sound pass-through method and system for earphones are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, in an inter partes review by Samsung Electronics America Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. The court vacated the board’s decision as to two claims that Samsung didn’t petition to invalidate, and otherwise affirmed the board’s decision.
