The Federal Circuit affirmed the decision of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board that claims of Lynk Labs Inc.'s patent that discloses AC light emitting diode and AC LED drive methods and apparatus are unpatentable as obvious over prior art, in an inter partes review by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. The court agreed with the board that a published patent application is deemed prior art in IPR as of the application’s filing date, and affirmed the board’s obviousness determination.
