The Federal Circuit affirmed the decision of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board that Apple Inc. didn’t show that claims of Smart Mobile Technologies LLC’s patent that relates to wireless enhancements to IP-based cellular telephones and mobile wireless devices are unpatentable as obvious over prior art. The court said that the board adopted the parties’ agreed-upon claims construction and that substantial evidence supports its obviousness conclusion.
