The Federal Circuit affirmed the decision of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board holding that challenged claims of BJ Energy Solutions LLC’s patent that relates to a pump-motor-pump configuration where a single electric motor drives two hydraulic fracturing pumps are unpatentable as obvious over prior art. The court said that the board’s obviousness findings are supported by substantial evidence.
