The Federal Circuit vacated and remanded a federal district court in North Carolina’s denial of Lenovo (U.S.) Inc.'s request for an anti-suit injunction prohibiting Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson from enforcing injunctions that Ericsson had obtained in Colombia and Brazil, in this dispute concerning patents declared to be essential to complying with the 5G wireless-communication standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. According to the appeals court, the district court erred when it reasoned that, to be dispositive, the domestic suit must necessarily result in a global cross-license.
