A federal district court in Tennessee denied Prime Medical LLC, Symmetry Surgical Inc. and G&T Industries Inc.'s motion for summary judgment under the on-sale bar and for ineligible subject matter in Xodus Medical Inc.'s action for infringement of its patents for a system that secures a patient to an operating table when the patient’s feet are elevated during surgery. The court said that the claims require more than simply applying natural laws such as friction and gravity to prevent patient movement and thus are not directed to an abstract idea.
