The Federal Circuit affirmed the decision of a federal district court in Texas that challenged claims of RFC Lenders of Texas LLC’s patent that relates to monitoring vehicles for unauthorized usage are patent ineligible, in this infringement action against Smart Chemical Solutions LLC. The appeals court said that the representative patent claim is directed to the abstract idea of detecting, transmitting, and processing data to monitor vehicles, and lacks an inventive concept.
