The Federal Circuit affirmed a federal district court in Wisconsin’s grant of Target Corporation’s motion for summary judgment of invalidity in Innovaport LLC’s action for infringement of patents that claim systems and methods for providing product location within a store. According to the appeals court, the asserted claims are directed to the abstract idea of using computers as a tool and not an improvement in computer capabilities, and don’t contain an inventive concept.
