The Federal Circuit reversed decisions of a federal district court in Texas granting United Services Automobile Association summary judgment on patent eligibility on these actions against PNC Bank N.A. for infringement of a patent directed to remote check deposit technology. The appeals court held that the asserted patent claim is directed to the abstract idea of depositing a check using a handheld mobile device, and doesn’t contain an inventive concept.
