A federal district court in California construed disputed claim terms in Blue Spike LLC’s action against UMG Manufacturing and Logistics Inc., Universal Music Group Inc., Universal Music Publishing Inc., Universal Music Publishing Group, and Universal Music Publishing Inc., for infringement of patents that generally relate to the encryption of digital content. The court construed “watermark,” “creating differential access based on the manipulation step,” “scrambling/scrambled/scrambling technique,” “perceptibly degraded digital content,” “creating a predetermined key to manipulate the digital signal,” and other terms.
