Challenged claims of Calabrese Stemer LLC’s patent directed to providing an added level of security for charge transactions are unpatentable as anticipated by prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said, in an inter partes review by Askeladden LLC. The board determined that the challenged claims are anticipated by prior art that discloses a card payment transaction system that enables online card payment transactions through data communication between a card transaction terminal device and a card authentication host. And the board dismissed Calabrese’s motion to exclude.
