Challenged claims of Immersion Corp.'s patent that describes a haptic representation system that generates a haptic effect in response to sensor input are unpatentable as anticipated by and obvious over prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said, in an inter partes review by Valve Corp. The board determined that the challenged claims are anticipated by and obvious over a portable navigation device for enabling users to find geospatial orientations within the physical world using their tactile senses.
