Capitol Records Settles Musician’s Copyright Termination Claim

Capitol Records LLC settled with one artist in a music copyright termination lawsuit, as the remaining plaintiffs appeal a Manhattan federal court’s denial of class certification.

Rock vocalist and guitarist John Waite entered a confidential settlement with Capitol and its parent Universal Music Group Recordings Inc. according to a Tuesday filing in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. That court’s refusal to certify plaintiffs as a class in their bid to exercise termination rights remains pending in the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
