Canon Prevails in Toner Cartridge Patent Infringement Case

Canon Inc. prevailed in its lawsuit in a California federal court against a company that allegedly infringed seven of the printer and copier giant’s patents related to toner cartridges.

Canon last month sought a default judgment and permanent injunction against Ontario, Calif.-based V4INK, which was accused of selling several toner cartridges that infringe Canon’s intellectual property, including a new and improved design for a laser beam printer cartridge. It sold the off-brand items as “lower-priced substitutes for Canon-made” cartridges.
