Cannabis Company’s Trade Secrets Suit Against Amyris Can Proceed

Biotechnology company Amyris Inc. must face claims that it misappropriated trade secrets and infringed a cannabis company’s patents, the Southern District of New York said.

Lavvan Inc. sued Amyris in September. Amyris sought to compel arbitration, which it claimed is required by the companies’ agreement, or dismiss the case. But the agreement allows legal action for intellectual property disputes, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said Monday.

Lavvan commercializes cannabinoid ingredients for a range of industries. Amyris produces ingredients for cosmetics, fragrances, and flavors. The companies considered working together to produce synthetic cannabinoids in 2018. ...
