Caltrain Gets Railworker-Safety Patent Suit Tossed, For Now

Caltrain, the San Francisco Bay Area’s commuter rail system, won dismissal of Railware Inc.’s patent suit over railworker-safety technology, though a California federal judge ordered Railware to file an amended complaint to resolve its vague allegations.

Railware’s original complaint “utterly fails to put Caltrain (or the Court, for that matter) on notice” of the accused products, instead relying on “a vague, virtually unbounded assortment of unknown products,” Judge Beth Labson Freeman wrote in an opinion issued Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
