Apple, Broadcom Settle Caltech’s Error Code Patent Lawsuit

The California Institute of Technology finalized a settlement with Apple Inc. and Broadcom Ltd. to end its lawsuit alleging infringement of error-correction coding patents after more than seven years.

Judge George H. Wu granted the parties’ stipulation to dismiss all claims in the case in a Nov. 22 order filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California. The terms for the settlement agreement date to Sept. 22, according to the order.

Caltech sued Apple and Broadcom in May 2016 alleging infringement of US Patent Nos. 7,117,710; 7,421,032; 7,916,781; and 8,284,833. The patents introduced ...
