Call Your Mother Says ‘Call Your Bubbi’ Infringes Bagel Mark

The Washington DC-based bagel shop Call Your Mother accused New Jersey deli Call Your Bubbi of trademark infringement in a new federal lawsuit.

The operating name of Bubbies Bagels LLC will confuse consumers into perceiving an affiliation, Call Your Mother Corp. said in a Tuesday complaint in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey. The marks create similar impressions for consumers given the identical start to the marks combined with the fact that both marks “denote a caring and nurturing Jewish matriarch,” as “Bubbi” commonly refers to a Jewish grandmother, the complaint said.
