California Judge Reinforces Sanctions Against Texas IP Attorney

A California federal judge won’t halt enforcement of his own sanctions order against three attorneys required to self-report to bar associations and disciplinary committees in the next day.

Magistrate Judge Peter Kang denied staying the April 26 deadline for Bill Ramey of Ramey LLP and his colleagues, according to an order filed Friday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. Ramey requested a reversal and stay pending appeal, arguing Kang’s jurisdiction over the matter lapsed once the patent dispute with Renesas Electronics America Inc. resolved.
