California Governor Signs Social Media Drug Safety Legislation

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law on Friday legislation that will increase cooperation between law enforcement and social media platforms to crack down on the sale of fentanyl and other dangerous substances.

The bill (A.B. 1027) would add controlled substances to the list of many topics in which social media platforms must submit terms of services to the state attorney general. That requirement will begin no later than January, pending a lawsuit from X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
