Cadence, Bell Semiconductor Reach Settlement in Patent Dispute

Cadence Design Systems Inc. brought to a close its lawsuit against a patent-assertion company owned by Hilco Global.

Cadence and Synopsys Inc., two of the world’s largest suppliers of software tools used by engineers to design, develop, and test semiconductor chips, joined forces to sue Hilco’s Bell Semiconductor LLC in November 2022, alleging the company had harassed their chip-maker customers through a wave of patent litigation.

At one point in its litigation campaign, Bell Semic had 66 active patent suits in US district courts along with four complaints filed with the US International Trade Commission targeting semiconductor companies.
