ByteDance Sued by Self-Taught Florida Programmer in Patent Case

AFlorida inventor’s company sued ByteDance Ltd. in East Texas on Tuesday, accusing the TikTok developer of infringing five of web design patents. .

DiStefano Website Innovations LLC on Tuesday accused three ByteDance mobile applications, including TikTok, of copying its patents, according to the complaint filedin the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas’ Marshall Division. The complaint says TikTok, the video editing app CapCut, and a video-sharing app Lemon8 infringe five patents issued to Thomas DiStefano III.
