Bumble’s Win Nixing Geotracking Patents Could Help Uber, Lyft

Bumble Trading LLC convinced a federal judge in Texas to cancel two patents for ways to share satellite-based location tracking that Ikorongo Technology LLC had alleged Bumble’s mobile dating app infringes.

Judge Alan D. Albright, in an opinion Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, resolved a dispute that centered on a specification on sharing a user’s visited location data from the original patent on which the two reissued patents were based.

The patents, both of which Bloomberg Law estimates would have expired Dec. 12, also are part of cases against Uber Technologies ...
