Brooklyn Wine Store Tipsy Escapes Sake Seller’s Trademark Suit

Brooklyn wine store Tipsy LLC dodged a trademark lawsuit from a similarly named California-based sake seller, with a federal judge finding the court where the case was brought lacked personal jurisdiction.

California-based Tippsy Inc. failed to show the court was the correct venue and ulitmately didn’t show the New York company had intentionally infringed any trademarks, Judge Otis D. Wright wrote in the opinion granting Tipsy’s dismissal motion issued Thursday in the US District Court for the Central District of California.

The dispute between the two companies began when the New York shop sent Tippsy Inc.
