Broadcom’s LSI Loses Challenge to University of Minnesota Patent

The University of Minnesota won a US appeals court ruling Thursday upholding parts of a patent related to errors recorded in computer storage devices, a boon for its infringement claims against Broadcom Inc.’s LSI Corp.

Judge Timothy B. Dyk, writing a precedential opinion for a three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, affirmed the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s ruling that rejected as “untimely” LSI’s argument that an earlier patent anticipates two challenged claims.
