Broadcom Says Netflix Infringes Video Streaming Patents (1)

Broadcom Corp. accused Netflix Inc. in California federal court of infringing eight patents that are “essential to various aspects” of Netflix’s video streaming service.

According to the Friday complaint, Broadcom’s patents cover Netflix systems that ensure streaming with minimal interruptions, allow the efficient use of its server resources, and encode content to be compatible with computers and smart TVs.

Broadcom said Netflix’s alleged infringement has also harmed its sales by reducing the market for set-top boxes, which use Broadcom semiconductor chips.
