BMW Texas Suit Accuses Patent Owner of Forum Shopping in Germany

BMW AG told a Texas federal judge a non-practicing entity is misusing US patents and forum shopping by asserting claims concerning the use of Qualcomm Snapdragon circuits in vehicles in German court.

Onesta IP LLC did an end-run around US courts, filing lawsuits against the carmaker in Germany over US Patent Nos. 8,854,381 and 8,443,209, according to Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. The patents are related to computer system processing and power allocation, respectively.
