BMW Sues NorthStar in Defense of Vehicle Navigation Tech Patents

BMW of North America LLC is seeking a declaration in Texas federal court that its use of the iDrive infotainment system in its vehicles doesn’t infringe several patents owned by NorthStar Systems LLC.

The lawsuit, filed June 16 in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas, comes after NorthStar accused the car manufacturer of using patented technology in BMW vehicles without NorthStar’s permission. NorthStar sued BMW’s parent, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, in the Eastern District of Texas.
