BMW convinced a federal judge that a navigation system in several of the German luxury carmaker’s vehicles doesn’t infringe a Swiss patent assertion entity’s intellectual property, ending an 11-year-old lawsuit.
In light of the key language from a Beacon Navigation GmbH patent “and the undisputed nature of the accused navigation systems, the Court finds that, on the whole, BMW is entitled to summary judgment of no direct infringement in this case,” wrote Judge Mark A. Goldsmith in a math-heavy, 17-page opinion issued Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
