BMW Enters Fray in Arigna-Longford Patent Suit Funding Dispute

BMW pushed to be made part of a Delaware lawsuit pitting an Irish patent monetization firm against a litigation funder, saying Arigna Technology Ltd. owes it attorneys’ fees and court costs from other cases.

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG estimated Arigna—an affiliate of Ireland-based Atlantic IP Ltd.—owes it between $380,000 and $1.1 million in fees racked up by the German carmaker as it successfully defended two patent suits in German courts, where “fee shifting is mandatory.” BMW asserted its right to collect the fees Wednesday in a motion to intervene filed in the US District Court for the District of Delaware, ...
