Block Inc. Appeals Trademark Injunction Order Won By H&R Block

Block Inc. is appealing a trademark injunction won by H&R Block Inc. that prevents the Jack Dorsey-founded digital payments company from using the Block brand in connection with its tax filing services.

The appeal to the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit comes after Judge Nanette K. Laughrey found H&R Block was likely to succeed on the merits of a trademark infringement lawsuit.

The injunction stopped the newly rebranded Block, which used to be called Square, from using its new name with its Cash App Taxes services, which would likely cause consumer confusion with H&R Block’s tax services. ...
