BlackRock Sues Real Estate Firm for Trademark Infringement

A California real estate firm using “Black Rock” in its name infringes BlackRock Inc.‘s trademarks, a complaint in the Southern District of New York says.

Black Rock Funding Corp. is likely to cause confusion with BlackRock, which also provides real estate investment services, the complaint says.

BlackRock is the “world’s largest publicly-traded investment firm,” and it owns trademark registrations covering financial areas that include “real estate investment services,” the July 24 complaint says. BlackRock says it’s a “worldwide leader in real estate investment management” and manages “numerous well-known” real estate investment funds.
