Biden Taps Former Obama IP Aide for Commerce Review Team

A former senior White House adviser for intellectual property in the Obama administration has been named to President-elect Joe Biden’s Commerce Department review team.

Santa Clara University Law’s Colleen Chien will help the incoming Biden administration assess the operations of the department, which includes the Patent and Trademark Office. Chien was President Barack Obama’s senior adviser on intellectual property and innovation from 2013 to 2015.

Chien testified before Congress in 2019 on preventing the issuing of low-quality patents. She also signed on to a letter with other university professors, including Stanford Law’s Mark Lemley, in opposition to the STRONGER Patents ...
