Bentley-Jaguar Patent Fight Won’t Get Tribunal’s Intervention

Bentley Motors Inc. lost its bid to have a government tribunal intervene in a patent dispute with Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. over a vehicle control system.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board said Tuesday it’s rejecting Bentley’s request because substantial resources have already been spent on overlapping validity questions in a related district court case, where trial is set for October.

Jaguar sued Bentley in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2018, alleging a driver assistance system in the Bentley Bentayga infringes Jaguar’s patented terrain response technology. Bentley’s luxury SUV was launched in 2016, with ...
